"New Orleans is a seafood town, but it has a real weakness for roast beef po’boys (submarine sandwiches), and the ones served here, on crisped, gravy-soaked French bread, are worthy of pressed linen and stemware. This dark corner saloon in the Irish Channel has none of that, however; it’s divey even by New Orleans standards."

1. BEST BAR - "Parasol's is so much more than the home of the annual St. Patrick's Day block party. Judging from the outside, Parasol's is just your average neighborhood bar. However, this Irish bar (it is NOT an Irish pub) possesses all of the qualities necessary to make a return trip a must. Located off the tourist route, this Irish Channel classic has been around since 1952, providing ample time to perfect their po-boys. With friendly bartenders, regular patrons who recognize your face every time you come in, a 25-cent Pacman/Galaga machine, and moderately priced drinks, one can easily see why so many locals call Parasol's home." -Stuart Linder

"When a pub makes its home in a neighborhood with a name like the Irish Channel, a blow-out St. Patrick's Day party would seem to be a requirement and that's what Parasol's Restaurant and Bar has been doing for better than half a century...outdoor bars and beer trucks begin doling out green beer (and other colors) by 11 a.m., a DJ will provide tunes and Parasol's famous roast beef will stand-in for traditional corned beef from the kitchen."

"Dingy, dicey and a little bit dirty: This Irish Channel barroom is the
classic neighborhood dive. During its infamous St. Patrick's Day
celebrations, this bar floats in a flood tide of emerald beer as the
starting point of New Orleans' boozy St. Paddy's parade--Mardi Gras
with a coat of green Krylon. Its renowned roast beef po'boys aer greasy
and garlicky; the rest of the bar food menu provides welcome ballast
during televised Saints games."
